With the COVID restrictions in place, we have been spending more time together as a family than ever before. We have started to take each other for granted and sometimes need a gentle reminder to be more kind to each other. “The Great Book of Kindness: Teach Your Child to Be Kind in 12 Easy Steps” is a great way to remind each other how easy it is to be kind to each other.

The Great Book Of Kindness

“The Great Book Of Kindness: Teach Your Child To Be Kind In 12 Easy Steps” by Olga Pleskonos follows the story of Arthur as he discovers ways to spread kindness in the world around him.

The story focus on planting “seeds of kindness” in our daily lives. During the summer my children planted a small garden so they could relate to how a small seed grows into something amazing over time. Each act of kindness that we do grows into something bigger, we never know the effect that it can have over time.

Each idea in the story is something that even the smallest family member can do. From helping around the house to recycling each idea in the story is something that even the smallest family member can do.

The bottom of each page summarizes in bold print the act of kindness that each page demonstrates.

The illustrations in the story are beautifully done and in full colour. The text is large and easy to read for young readers. Perhaps it is the formatting in my kindle reader, but the font size seems to jump from page to page. This in no way affects my enjoyment of the book.

As a special bonus, the author has provided a set of colouring pages that your little one can use to further explore the various acts of kindness. My link in the Kindle Cloud Reader did not work, but I was able to copy the link from the Amazon listing and sign up for the free colouring pages. The pages are 8.5 by 8.5 inches, I would have liked to have them fill the full 8.5 by 11 inch of standard printer paper. That is just a personal preference.

The colouring pages are a wonderful follow-up activity. I love that there is plenty of white space for your little one to do some small journalling.

“The Great Book Of Kindness: Teach Your Child To Be Kind In 12 Easy Steps” is a great reminder of how easy it is to be kind to one another. After reading this book, chat with your little ones about other ways we can be kind to one another.
