There comes a time in many people’s lives where they have to make decisions about how to care for an ageing loved one who can no longer care for themselves. As we age it becomes more and more difficult to care for our own bodies, let alone our homes, property, etc. This is where options like skilled nursing homes, home health care agencies Bethesda MD, hospice, and other services come into play. Making the decision of which option would be best for your loved one can be difficult.

Home Health Care Agencies

Many seniors prefer to stay in the home they have made memories in and spent so much of their lives in. In this situation, hiring in-home care is a viable option. Home health care agencies provide caregivers that can visit the home of your loved one and provide different levels of care based on the needs of the patient. This can give you peace of mind since you know someone will be checking on them frequently and taking care of them.

Skilled Nursing Homes

If you prefer your loved one to have more frequent care and access to immediate help if needed, then a skilled nursing home may be the way to go. This will give them a high level of care with access to nurses and doctors 24/7. Although it can be an expensive option, it does provide meals, a room, activities and access to various amenities.

Move Them into Your Home

Lastly, moving them into your home is an option for those that have usable space, such as a mother-in-law apartment or a furnished basement. This option allows you to keep a closer eye on your loved one and is more affordable than moving them into a nursing home. However, it may be difficult to find time for yourself and other family members if you need to spend too much time caring for them in your own home, which may be too stressful for many people to handle.
