I can not imagine a world without music, it is such a big part of our lives. My son loves to play any instrument he can get his hands on. He has tried his hand at the Ukulele and loves to pound out his favourite songs on the piano. Toys like the “Symphony No. 2” Orchestra by Battat inspire a love of music in children that will carry on throughout their entire lives.
The “Symphony No. 2” Orchestra lets your preschooler conduct the orchestra! With 7 instruments to choose from your little one has a truly unique way to explore music.
What does the Symphony No. 2 Include?
The Symphony No. 2 comes with the music platform, 7 instruments (violin, flute, trumpet, piano, xylophone, drums and cymbals) and 1 music book.
The Music Platform
The music platform is made of clear plastic, so your little conductor can see the flashing colours that accompany the music. It plays 15 songs with easy to use buttons to stop, advance to the next song or replay the current song. The buttons are large enough for little fingers to easily manipulate them.
The Battat “Symphony No. 2” comes with 7 different instruments and each one has a different shape and colour.
- Violin – green oval
- Flute – gold triangle
- Trumpet – orange pentagon
- Piano – navy blue rectangle
- Xylophone – blue star
- Drum – purple circle
- Pink – four leaf
As each instrument is placed in the orchestra pit and the coressponding sound will play. The instruments are easy for small hands to manipulate. Your little one will learn the difference between melody and harmony as instruments are added and removed.
The sound is pleasant to my ears, unlike the harsh sounds found in many of my children’s toys. There is a songbook included so you can sing along with your favourite songs and maybe some new ones.
- Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
- Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony
- The Wheels on the Bug
- Eensy, Weensy Spider
- Baby Bumblebee
- Brahm’s Lullaby
- Row, Roy, Row You Boat
- Pop! Goes the Weasel
- Entry of the Gladiators
- Alphabet Song
- Come Little Leaves
- Fur Elise
There are two speakers on either side of the platform that can be controlled with the red volume button. There is also a headphone jack. I have mixed feelings on the usage of headphones. As a parent sometimes the luxury of silence is a beautiful thing, but I have concerns about little ones turning the sound up too loud. On the bottom of the music platform is a button control so you can manipulate the sound to either speakers or speakers and auxiliary.
What do I think?
This is a wonderful introduction to music for preschoolers. They will enjoy hearing classical music along with favourite nursery songs.
The only thing I would consider adding to this toy is a carry case, or some way to lock in the instruments for carrying and storage.
I love the various combination that can be created from adding and removing instrument pieces to the orchestra pit. Your little one can learn about shapes, colours and motor skills. The Battat “Symphony No. 2” is a wonderful musical toy that is a welcome addition to any playroom.
