For my daughter’s spring concert her class performed a skit that took place in an Italian Restaurant and then sang a song about Pasta. It was so much fun to watch and it made my daughter want to learn more about the Italian culture.
“If You Were Me and Lived In…Italy” is another installment in the “If You Were Me and Lived In…” series of books by Carole P. Roman. Each book in this series is an adventure to a different culture around the world. These books are a wonderful way for your little one to explore the world all from the comfort of home.
“If You Were Me and Lived In…Italy” is a journey to the magnificent land of Italy. Discover what your name might be, games that you and your friends may play and even what you would call your Mom and Dad. I love that the book shares the culture of Italy from a child’s point of view, sharing the facts that will be of interest to children in the primary grades.
I love the format of this book. The author has taken the time to put a pronunciation guide in the text, which is helpful when reading new words. An example is on page 6 – “You might live in the capital, Rome (Ro-m-a). The guide is also at the end of the book if you would like to review some of the new words that you have learned!
My kids enjoy the common themes that run through the book series. They are excited to know the names for “Mom” and “Dad” in several languages and love to show off their new language skills when they can. In this book we learn the names for various kinds of food, how to say school in Italian and many other words.
The illustrations are bright and colourful. The illustrator has included used some real-life images as well as drawn images. I feel that the photographic images aren’t as crisp as they could be, but I love the dimension they add to the book. Each image helps the book to “come alive” for your child.
“If You Were Me And Lived In…Italy” touches on the various aspects of living in Italy from it’s history to modern day sports. It is a wonderful book to introduce your little one to what life would be like if your family lived in Italy. Where will Ms. Roman take us next?
