“Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles” is another Captain No Beard adventure. Fribbet the Frog is usually a happy fellow, but today he’s unhappy. The finds him crying and hiding all alone on the ship. Things are changing at home…tadpoles are everywhere and Fribbet feels like he doesn’t fit in anymore. Can the crew find a way to help him feel better?
“Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles” the author, Carole P. Roman, has created wonderful story about friendship and the value of sharing our troubles with our friends and about how wonderful family can be.
The story has an important message for everyone, young and old…
“Problems can weigh you down like a heavy anchor.
When you share your load with others,
It’s never to heavy to carry.”
– Captain No Beard –
“Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles” is a story about change. Life is full of changes and when you are small change can often seem very scary. As an adult we are often able to predict what will happen in a given situation, but little imaginations often work overtime and create all sorts of crazy outcomes! This story reminded me that I need to remember my children are just that…children. They don’t always see the whole picture, and sometimes the little picture can be scary!
Sharing our problems can be difficult. It can make us feel vulnerable. We might feel that our friends won’t understand or even worse, they might laugh at us! Fribbet learns that sharing your troubles with a friend can actually make you feel better.
The story also shows us that we all have fears. Each member of the crew had something they were all afraid of. When Fribbet shared his fears with his friends, he discovered that he wasn’t alone. All of his friends were scared of something and together they can work through those fears.
“Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles” is also a wonderful story about how great family can be. Sometimes our siblings can be difficult to get along with. They will make messes, take our toys and even steal away some of Mom’s time. It’s easy to be jealous or even scared that Mom will forget all about us and love our sibling more. The story shows us that even though our sibling can be difficult they really are our best friends in the world.
The text on each page is great for young readers. My daughter just finished Grade 1 French Immersion and could easily read the text. There was just enough text on each page to challenge her. The illustrations are fun. My kids are familiar with the characters now and love seeing them in each new story.
“Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles” is another wonderful Captain No Beard story that my children love to read again and again. Each Captain No Beard adventure has a great message and is a great way to spend time reading with your child.
