The Berenstain Bears’ Easter Blessings

EasterBlessingsThe real meaning behind Easter is often lost in Easter Eggs and Chocolate Bunnies.  While there is nothing wrong with these things, we often forget to remind our children that this is the day we celebrate that Jesus Christ is risen!

“The Berenstain Bears’ Easter Blessings” by Mike Berenstain stars everyone favourite Berenstain Bear family.  It’s Easter morning and the Bear Family is getting ready for church when Grizzly Gramps and Gran stop by with a basket of Easter goodies. Brother, Sister and Honey want to dig into the basket of Goodies right away only to be stopped by Gramps. Gran tells the Bears that they need to take some time to count their Easter Blessings first.  As the Bears walk to church they are reminded of all the Blessings in life that are often taken for granted.  When the Bears arrive at Church, Preacher Brown reminds them of the greatest Blessing of all – our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He is risen!

“The Berenstain Bears’ Easter Blessings” is a great reminder for both young and old of why we celebrate Easter.  As parents we often get caught up in giving our children presents on Easter and yet forgot to remind that this is the day that we celebrate Christ’s resurrection.   Like the Bear children, most children can’t wait to dig into their Easter goodies and it’s up to us as parents to teach them the true meaning.

As the Bears walk to church they discover many of the blessings in their lives.  This is a great opportunity to talk with your child about the blessings in their own lives.  Friends, family, our home and even the weather are great blessings.  My kids really related to the blessings that come from being part of a small church.  I love how the author chose examples that all children can easily relate to.

The illustrations are the bright and colourful, staying true to the images we remember from past Berenstain books.  The book itself is of excellent quality. It’s is a sturdy boardbook with easy to wipe pages.  I love the size of the book, 6.4 inches by 6 inches which makes it perfect for tiny hands.

“The Berenstain Bears’ Easter Blessings” is a great story for toddlers.  While it doesn’t go into details of Christ’s death or resurrection, it does focus on the most important thing…Christ is Risen!
