I remember the treehouse my brother built for me as a kid. I loved to climb up there and sit up there and daydream about all the places I’d go and the things that I would see. It was sometimes lonely up there by myself and I was always thrilled when the neighbour kids were allowed to come over and hang out in my tree with me. “Terry Treetop Finds New Friends” brings back all those childhood treehouse memories!
“Terry Treetop Finds New Friends” tells the tale of a freckle faced boy nicknamed Terry Treetop. When Terry’s Dad builds him a treehouse Terry is thrilled. He loves to look out onto the world around him, but he’s a little lonely. A treehouse is meant to be shared with friends, so Terry ventures out into the world in search of some new friends to play with.
When Terry asks the farmyard animals to come and play, they all told him that they had to finish their chores first. Terry becomes discourages and is about to give up finding a new friend when he hears a little cry for help. Kitty the kitten was stuck in a tree and Terry was the only one who could save her!
“Terry Treetop Finds New Friends” is a story about friendship and how making new friends isn’t always going to be easy. We read this at bedtime and my daughter and talked about how our friends are sometimes busy but that doesn’t mean they aren’t our friends.
The illustrations are bright and fun. My daughter loved Kitty the kitten best. The author has also provided a cute little card game for you to print as a Thank-You gift for purchasing the book. The language used is easy enough for younger children to understand yet tosses in a few harder words to challenge older readers. I did find some grammatical errors that made reading this a little difficult. Although this story isn’t my personal favourite, my daughter enjoyed it and would read it again.
