Jammy Jams – Once Upon This Rock

Once Upon This RockI can’t hold a tune in a bucket.  I remember singing in the car with my daughter when I hear from the backseat, “Mommy!  Mommy!  What’s that noise?”  I stopped singing for a minute to listen and didn’t hear anything, so I started to sing again. “There it is again Mom!”  Oh dear, the noise…Me singing.  So you see, it really is that bad.

Some mom’s sing their kids to sleep, I rely on music CD’s to lull my kids into the Land of Nod.  We have an assortment of lullaby CD’s ready in my daughters room waiting for her to choose one.  “Once Upon This Rock” has quickly become a favourite.

My daughter feels that she’s outgrown the usual “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Rock-a-Bye Baby” songs that grace most of our usual CD’s.  She’s almost 4 after all, and that means it’s time to listen to “grown up” songs (where does the time go?).

When “Once Upon This Rock” arrived in the mail, we quickly opened it up.  She asked what it was and I told her it was some new bedtime music.  I think, for the first time she asked to go to bed early so that she could listen to it.  Bedtime stories were skipped and we crawled under the blankets for some snuggle time and lullabyes.uponthisrockBack

We were greeted with soothing sounds of lullaby renditions of christian rock hits.  The CD is entirely instrumental which is perfect for us.  When there is singing I often catch my daughter singing along instead of falling asleep.

Even though my daughter only recognized one song (Fireflies) this CD has become her favourite.  She will ask for the “sheep songs” and we’ll play it over and over again.  I love it because it’s soft music suitable to have on in the background while we are getting ready for bed.  It’s not only for bedtime, it’s great to have on when we need to wind down and have just a little bit of quiet time.

When listening to some other lullaby CD’s I have found that there can be large sound differences between tracks.  This isn’t the case with “Once Upon This Rock”, each song flows seamlessly.  There are no jarring gaps or sound variations.

The tracks include:

1. Be My Escape (originally by Relient K)
2. Alive (originally by P.O.D.)
3. How To Save A Life (originally by The Fray)
4. Locked In A Cage (originally by Skillet)
5. Meant To Live (originally by Switchfoot)
6. Honestly (originally by Stryper)
7. Fully Alive (originally by Flyleaf)
8. Caught Inside (originally by The OC Supertones)
9. Flood (originally by Jars Of Clay)
10. Fireflies (originally by Owl City)

This CD isn’t only for small kids.  It’s great for anyone who is looking for soothing music to relax/sleep to.
